What a Queensland Plumbing Licence Covers

Queensland runs two licence layers for plumbing and drainage work. The person on the tools holds an occupational licence showing their competence, and the company behind the job holds a contractor licence showing the finances and training to run jobs. The QBCC issues each licence.

Three classes sit inside the scheme:

  1. Plumber's licence

covers plumbing work, apart from anything needing its own endorsement.

  2. Drainer's licence

covers below-ground drainage, again apart from endorsed work.

  3. Gas work licence

held by a licensed gasfitter, and separate from the other two. Our gas fitting work page explains what it covers.

How Plumbing Work Is Regulated in Queensland

Two authorities share the oversight. The QBCC licenses plumbers, keeps the record of notifiable work and investigates unlicensed work, while your local council assesses applications, grants permits and inspects on site.

Regulated work splits into permit work, notifiable work and minor work, and a licensed plumber or drainer must do all three. The QBCC's position is that this protects the home, the owner's health and the owner's rights.

The paperwork you receive depends on the job:

  1. A Form 4 copy

after notifiable work, for you as the owner or the person who engaged us. A missing copy can be requested from the QBCC.

  2. A gas system compliance certificate

after gas work installs or alters a system, handed over as soon as the work finishes.

  3. A council inspection on request

You may ask for a council check of notifiable work at any stage, and the QBCC's registers let you search our licence or your address yourself.

How a Plumbing Job Runs From Call to Finish

  1. 1

    The call and the diagnosis

You tell us what is wrong, and we ask the questions that narrow it down. On site, our plumber traces the fault to its cause.

  2. 2

    The quote

You see a fixed quote before any work starts, with flat-rate pricing and no hidden fees. Nothing begins until you approve the figure.

  3. 3

    The work and the testing

We carry out the repair, then test what we touched: pressure on new pipe runs, flow on renewed fixtures, and a full check after gas work.

  4. 4

    The paperwork and payment

Payment is by card or EFTPOS on site once the work is finished, or choose Fix now, pay later. Any paperwork goes to you before we go.

Where We Work Around Cashmere

Our run takes in the suburb plus its neighbours, from acreage blocks along the ridge roads to the estate streets near Warner. Clear Mountain and Whiteside each have their own page, and Warner, Joyner, Eatons Hill, Samsonvale and Mount Samson sit on the same circuit.

At the last census, 87.6 per cent of houses here had four or more bedrooms, so most jobs are big family homes with long pipe runs. The full catchment sits on our suburbs we cover list.

Questions Our Customers Ask

Call (07) 3524 0766

Does gas work at my Cashmere home need a separate licence?

Yes, gas work sits on its own licence. Queensland allows only a licensed gasfitter to install, alter, repair or certify a gas system, and that licence is separate from plumbing and drainage. Ask to see the gas work licence before any gas job begins.

Who inspects plumbing work in Cashmere?

The City of Moreton Bay council grants permits and inspects plumbing work, while the QBCC licenses plumbers and records notifiable work. You can ask the council to check notifiable work at any stage, and the QBCC's online registers let you confirm a licence or a lodged Form 4 yourself.

What does QBCC licensed mean for my plumbing job?

The QBCC has issued an occupational licence to the plumber on the tools and a contractor licence to the company taking the job on. We say QBCC licensed, never certified, and our number is QBCC No: 15024607, which you can check on the public registers.

Do you work on units and rentals in Cashmere as well as houses?

Yes, we work for owner-occupiers, landlords, tenants and unit owners alike. Who approves the job differs, because a rental needs the owner's or property manager's sign-off, and a unit may need body corporate approval for shared plumbing.
