We also handle the wider bathroom line, and our bathroom plumbing page sets out the full list. When a fault crosses into hot water or drains, we bring the right crew with us.

Shower Faults That Need a Plumber

A dripping outlet, lukewarm water and weak or patchy spray are the three faults we get called about. Each fault lands on a different part.

  1. The stubborn drip

water left in the head drains for a minute or two after a shower. A drip carrying on past that comes from the mixer, where wear lets water slip past a seal.

  2. Cold or lukewarm water

a tired cartridge pulls extra cold into the blend. If the hot taps elsewhere are also cool, the fault sits with the water heater, and our hot water plumbing page has that job.

  3. Weak or uneven spray

minerals built up across the spray plate, a restrictor built into the head or a worn cartridge chokes the flow before the water even reaches you.

  4. Water at the wrong spout

where a bath spout shares the line, a worn diverter leaks flow to the spout while you shower.

Annual rainfall across the foothills sits near 1,120 mm, and plenty of homes on tank water feed the shower straight off the pump. Solids settle in the head first, so a spray that runs crooked is often just due for a clean.

From the Shower Head Back to the Wall

Working back from the outlet, a shower is four parts: the head, then the arm or the rail, the hose and slide rail on a handheld set, and the mixer set into the wall. Each part fails in its own way.

  1. Shower head

holds the spray plate and its restrictor, and seals onto the arm at a thread that can weep mid-shower.

  2. Arm or rail

the arm is the short pipe carrying water across to a fixed head, while a rail mounts a handheld unit at a height you can slide.

  3. Mixer and cartridge

the cartridge sets the flow and the hot-cold blend. Wear in it shows as a drip, a stiff lever or a temperature that drifts.

  4. Diverter

the small valve that sends water to the head or the bath spout, and the first suspect when one runs while the other should not.

An exposed arm, rail and head can all be reached without opening the wall. A mixer buried behind tiles needs access through the wall, which changes the scope of the repair and the quote.

Can You Fix a Shower Yourself in Queensland

No, not past the head: anyone may swap a shower head, but the arm, the wall mixer and its cartridge are work for a licensed plumber. Queensland sorts plumbing jobs into three tiers, and it pays to know which one yours sits in.

  1. Unregulated

replacing a shower head is on the QBCC's short list of jobs a householder can do, even so, the work itself has to reach the minimum standards.

  2. Minor work

repairing, replacing or removing a fitting or fixture needs a licensee. No council permit applies, and nothing gets lodged with the QBCC.

  3. Notifiable work

putting in a fresh outlet, or shifting the shower to a new spot in an existing building, needs a Form 4. Your plumber lodges it with the QBCC within 10 business days of finishing.

The licensed contractor lodges that Form 4 and pays its fee, and may pass the cost plus admin time on to you as the owner. We put any fee like that in the fixed quote up front rather than leaving it as a surprise line.

Repair or Replace Your Shower Fittings

Replace when the wear goes deeper than a washer or cartridge swap, or when your plan adds or shifts an outlet. A repair suits the parts that seal; a replacement suits parts that have thinned, corroded or cracked.

New fittings have to clear two registers before we can legally install them:

  1. WaterMark certification

the standard a product must carry before a licensed plumber can install it under Queensland's plumbing regulations.

  2. Star rating

the water-efficiency scheme behind the star label on taps, showers and flow controllers, and every fitting we install is registered under it.

Two Queensland rules shape the choice. A rental's showerhead has to flow at no more than 9 litres per minute before a landlord can pass the full water bill to a tenant. New dwellings need showerheads rated 3 stars or better, though renovations are exempt.

Houses out along Adams Road and the other estate streets date from the 1980s to the 2000s, and their original mixers are well into cartridge age. If your plan is a fresh outlet rather than a like-for-like fix, our bathroom renovation plumbing page maps the staged work. For the drip itself, our driipping shower head guide explains the difference between leftover water and a failing seal.

Water tracking along walls or pooling on floors is a membrane and tile issue rather than a fittings job. Our leaking shower repairs page covers that work and its licensing.

Shower Repair Questions We Get

Call (07) 3524 0766

Can a plumber fix my shower in Cashmere?

Yes, we handle every fitting: heads, arms, rails, hoses and mixers. Water getting past the shower screen or tray is a separate fault, and our leaking shower repairs page covers that work.

Why does my shower head drip when the taps are off?

A drip that persists once the mixer is shut points to the washer or cartridge inside the mixer. Water draining out of the head for a minute after a shower is normal and needs no repair.

Can I change my own shower head in Queensland?

Yes, the QBCC lists a shower head swap as unregulated work anyone can do. The standards still bind the finished job, and the arm, mixer and cartridge stay with a licensed plumber.

What causes low shower pressure in Cashmere?

Minerals clogging the spray channels, a restrictor inside the head or a worn mixer cartridge chokes flow at the fitting itself. Weak flow at every tap in the house is a supply fault, and we trace that separately.

Does a shower mixer swap need a Form 4?

No, swapping a mixer for a matching one is minor work a licensed plumber can do without a permit. Fitting an extra outlet, or shifting the shower to a new spot, counts as notifiable work, and we lodge the Form 4 with the QBCC inside 10 business days.
